At Ridgefield Academy we believe it is important to teach our students the importance of daily exercise. We offer morning running and sports clubs, and include Physical Education in our Lower School curriculum three times a week. Our older students play a competitive sport each of three seasons.
Several years ago our Parents Association suggested a unique way for RA to celebrate fitness and raise money for teacher support. Thus, the Run4RA event was born. Run4RA is an all-school event in which each student in Kindergarten through Grade 8 is challenged to run and/or walk for an age-appropriate length of time. Mrs. MacInnes and Mr. Carney, our Physical Education teachers, enjoy helping our students "train" for the run during the weeks leading up to it by incorporating running activities into PE class that highlight stamina, pacing, and fun.
Students are encouraged to secure sponsors to support their efforts in Run4RA. Donations last year ranged from $10 - $1,000. Proceeds raised during this event supported our Teaching Enrichment Fund, which allows our faculty to explore interests and opportunities that will help expand their knowledge and creativity outside of the academic year. Funds raised also provide general faculty support for all of our talented teachers.
RUN4RA is one of the most successful and well-received events of the school year. Last year, our community raised over $17, 000!
